On Tuesday, the Lithuanian National Olympic Committee (LTOC) honored the winners of the Lithuanian Fair Play Awards. During the ceremony, the awards were presented to the heroes by the Olympic champion, LTOC President Daina Gudzinevičiūtė and the President of the Lithuanian Committee for Fair Play, Olympian Austra Skujytė.
Emilija Greviškytė, a student of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, was selected and awarded the "Role Model of a Young Athlete for Peers" award.
The 19-year-old from Pandelis has been a participant of the Kazickas Family Foundation's "Youth Can" programme for 6 years. The aim of the programme, which was honoured last year at the Lithuanian Fair Play Awards, is to use sport as a tool to develop life skills among young people living in the regions and to provide them with opportunities that young people living in the cities do not have. After the departure of the coach of the Pandėlis team, it was planned to discontinue the project activities in the town, but feeling the great value of the project for the young people of Pandėlis, the initiative to become a coach was taken by E. Greviškytė, who was at that time a peer of many of the programme participants. Thanks to her, the programme activities were continued and this initiative inspired other participants.
